What Can I Post?

Posts can contain:

Text: Create a text post by typing directly into the post box. Text posts and creative project links make up the majority of MySciLife posts.

Embedded links: To link to an external site or project, you can type or paste the link into a text post. Once you have entered the full URL, press space bar or Enter on your keyboard to activate the link and generate a summary for the page you’ve linked to. Once the summary has appeared, you can delete the actual URL to keep your post concise. Clicking on the summary will still take users to the page you have specified. Click the “x” in the right-hand corner of the summary to delete both the summary and the link

TipYour post can also include a link to a project you made elsewhere on the web using free, creative tools and apps, like animations, comics, annotated images, and audio recordings. (See TeachersFirst's Creative Tools for MySciLife in the MSL Resource Library for some great tool suggestions.) DO NOT include your real name or location information in your posts.

Note: If you change a link that has been embedded in a post when editing, the link will not summarize but it will be added to the post in a clickable URL format.

Embedded YouTube videos: To embed a YouTube video into a post, enter the YouTube link as you would a normal link to generate a streaming player. You can delete the link after the summary appears. Click the “x” in the right-hand corner of the summary if you want to delete it and start over.

Tip: If your school’s network blocks YouTube, these embedded videos will most likely not function properly. Try uploading a video file directly to MySciLife instead.

File attachments/uploads: Attachments are files attached to posts. The maximum size for an uploaded file is 500 megabytes. The following file formats can be attached to MySciLife posts:

  • Images:  .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .png
  • Video:  .avi, .m4v, .mov, .mp4, .mpg, .wmv
  • Audio:  .mp3, .wav
  • Documents:  .doc, .pdf, .rtf, .txt
