To post in a Community, simply enter that Community by selecting the Community name from the Community Menu, then click into the box that says Write a post. The post box—labeled Post (required)— will expand and allow you to type your content. You can also add hashtags to the body of a post by using the # before a word. Read the Tags article to learn how tags function differently for students and teachers. If you’re typing a particularly long post, or if you get interrupted, you can always click Save draft to save your work in Drafts (accessible from the My Stuff menu).
Remember: you’re writing as your MySciLife identity, not as yourself. Your post can also include a link to a project you made elsewhere on the web using free, creative tools and apps, like animations, comics, annotated images, and audio recordings. (See TeachersFirst's Creative Tools for MySciLife in the MSL Resource Library for some great tool suggestions.) DO NOT include your real name or location information in your posts.
Once the body of your post is written, give it a title or citation—these elements are not required, but do make for more complete posts. If you’d like to add an attachment, click the Attach tab in the post box. Click Choose file and select the file you would like to attach to the post.
The following types of files can be attached to posts:
If you don’t want to upload any files with your post, just click Post and your post will show up in the Community’s posts. All student posts are subject to teacher approval and both Community and individual student moderation controls.
The Available on Public Stream checkbox controls whether or not your post, once promoted by a teacher or posted directly in the Main Stream, is accessible to the general public on the MySciLife homepage. This checkbox is checked by default for all students who have their public sharing settings turned on.
