Moderation is the process by which you approve your students’ posts and/or comments. The MySciLife student moderation settings determine whether a student can post and comment directly, or whether their posts and comments are held for review and teacher approval before they show in the Community (or Main Stream). The moderation process teaches good digital citizenship, keeping conversations in MySciLife appropriate and on-track. Moderation also helps students who need extra guidance with the clarity of their writing or the science concepts they are discussing.
As students demonstrate consistently good digital citizenship and solid science in their interactions, they may not require the teacher’s direct attention to everything they write. Teachers have the option to turn Off moderation for a student who has demonstrated mastery of the platform. Turning off moderation allows these students to participate with minimal oversight, which in turn allows teachers to concentrate moderation efforts on students who either need more help and attention or whose online behavior requires closer supervision.
Remember: ALL posts/comments to the Main Stream are always moderated, regardless of student or Community moderation settings.
For more information on adjusting student moderation settings, see the Manage Students article.
